Since December 2020, Skilled Worker visa holders can own 100% of a UK limited company. The old Tier 2 restriction (10% maximum) was not carried over to the Skilled Worker visa.
There is no restriction on owning shares in, or being a director of, a UK limited company on a Skilled Worker visa.
The recommended approach is passive ownership: you own the company as shareholder and director, but a qualified Registered Manager runs the day-to-day operations. You continue in your current employed role. Your visa conditions are unaffected. Dividends from the company are passive income.
Domiciliary care is the ideal sector for visa-holding business owners because it combines two critical advantages:
Own it passively now. Self-sponsor later. No premises cost at any stage.
Start Up Loans are available to anyone legally resident in the UK with the right to work — including Skilled Worker and Health & Care visa holders. £5,000 at 6% fixed = approximately £97/month over 5 years.
Syndicate model: 5 people, £1,000 each. Share this page with friends or colleagues. Many of our ventures are purchased by groups of 3-5 people who know each other from work.

Based on published guidance from multiple UK immigration law firms, passive ownership of a UK company does not breach Skilled Worker visa conditions. You must not work in the company — a Registered Manager handles operations. Dividends are passive income. However, we recommend confirming with an immigration solicitor for your specific circumstances.
Yes. Being a company director is an administrative role, not employment. You attend board meetings and make strategic decisions, but you do not perform day-to-day work in the company. This is consistent with passive ownership.
No. Passive ownership means you keep your current employed role. The Registered Manager runs the care company. You oversee it as owner and director without doing operational work.
Yes, through self-sponsorship. Once the company is CQC-registered, it can apply for a Sponsor Licence and then sponsor you as an employee (e.g., Registered Manager). This requires a new Certificate of Sponsorship and visa application.

Yes. The syndicate model is 5 people at £1,000 each. Equal shares, equal say. The company structure supports multiple directors and shareholders. Many of our buyers are groups of colleagues from the same workplace.
